Behind the seas of rainbows, the blaring Lady Gaga "I was born this way" and occassional YMCA throwbacks there is a large community of love and inclusion with a story to tell. Sure, Denver Pridefest is know for eccentric displays of near nudity and drag queens galore - but at its core, it is a celebration.
A celebration of how far we have come in the fight for equality; How far we have come in the normalization of uniqueness. More importantly, a celebration of the notion that LOVE IS LOVE.
I am so happy to be raising my children in such a open environment that allows them to be healthy, both mentally and physically. Please be an ally for your loved ones...your children, but also be an ally for strangers. Everyone you know is fighting a battle. That doesn't mean YOUR battle is less rough or less deserving. Movements to get behind the LGBTQ community are important. Just as important as equality for women in the workforce, Black Lives Matter, Gun Reform...all of it. They are not in competition with each other and it is important to put personal beliefs or qualms aside and always remember we are all on the same damn team.
Much love to my Denver Pride celebrators this weekend!
